AP: Iran Launches Missile Strike on Dimona, Israel’s Nuclear Hub
According to a report by webangah News Agency, the Associated Press detailed Iran’s destructive missile attacks on occupied territories, notably targeting scientific institutions of the Zionist regime.
The report states that for years, Israel has attempted to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program by assassinating it’s nuclear scientists and eliminating key intellectual figures. Now, with an Iranian missile striking a leading research institute known for its work in biological sciences, physics, and other fields, the escalating direct conflict between Iran and Israel has placed Israeli scientists in the crosshairs.
While Sunday dawn’s attack on the Weizmann Institute of Science caused no casualties, it inflicted severe damage to multiple laboratories on campus-destroying years of scientific research-and sent a stark warning to Israeli researchers: they and their expertise are now on the frontlines of an intensifying confrontation with Iran.
“This is a moral victory for Iran,” said Oren Schuldiner, a professor of cellular molecular biology and molecular neuroscience whose lab was completely destroyed in the strike. “They managed to damage Israel’s crown jewel-its science.”
iranian Scientists: Primary Targets in a Long Shadow War
During years of covert conflict between Israel and Iran-a prelude to current hostilities-Israel repeatedly targeted Iranian nuclear scientists to delay Tehran’s nuclear program. Tel Aviv replicated this tactic in its recent strikes against Iran, killing several nuclear scientists alongside senior military commanders while also hitting nuclear facilities and ballistic missile infrastructure.
Conversely, Iran has been accused of previously surveilling at least one Weizmann scientist. Yoel Guzansky, an Iran expert at Tel Aviv’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), noted: “The Weizmann Institute has long been on Tehran’s radar.”
The multidisciplinary research centre maintains ties with Israeli military entities like defense contractor Elbit Systems-potentially explaining why it was struck. Guzansky added that above all else:“Weizmann symbolizes Israel’s scientific advancement… This attack reflects Iranian thinking: ‘You harm our scientists; we harm yours.'”
Campus Devastation: “Literally Nothing Left”
Founded in 1934 (later renamed after Israel’s first president),Weizmann ranks among the regime’s top research institutions; its scholars publish hundreds of studies annually while boasting affiliations with Nobel laureates & Turing Award winners.
Two buildings were hit during Sunday morning’ s assault : one housing life-science labs , another under construction meant for chemistry studies . Dozens more structures sustained damage .
though closed as then , journalists touring Thursday observed shattered windows , collapsed roofing panels & charred walls amid rubble-strewn grounds . A faculty member’ s social media post showed flames engulfing heavily damaged structures nearby scattered debris piles.
Biochemistry Professor Sarel Fleishman confirmed :“Several buildings are so severely damaged … some labs literally no longer exist – there is nothing left.”
