China Responds to Trump’s Threat Against BRICS

China has responded to U.S.President donald Trump’s threatening remarks about imposing an additional 10% tariff on countries supporting BRICS policies, according to a webangah News Agency report citing Newsweek.
Mao Ning,spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry,stated: “BRICS serves as a crucial platform for cooperation among emerging markets in developing countries.” She emphasized that teh bloc ”promotes open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial collaboration-it is indeed not a confrontational alliance nor targets any specific nation.”
The Chinese diplomat reiterated Beijing’s consistent stance against U.S. tariff hikes: “Trade wars and tariffs produce no winners, while protectionism leads nowhere.”
Trump had declared on his Truth Social platform: “Any country aligning with BRICS’ anti-American policies will face a 10% tariff penalty without exception,” though he provided no clarification about these alleged “anti-American policies.”
The BRICS alliance currently comprises 11 members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi arabia, Egypt, UAE, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran.The group’s 17th summit is underway in brazil’s capital.
The progress follows recent U.S.-China trade agreements where Washington eased certain restrictions while Beijing accelerated exports of rare earth minerals.
During its latest summit session-which condemned both U.S./Israeli aggression against Iran and Western tariff increases-BRICS expanded its membership from five to eleven nations this year.
