Russians Respond to Trump’s Threat Against BRICS
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, addressed Donald Trump’s threatening remarks about imposing additional tariffs on countries supporting BRICS policies, stating that the alliance does not target any third-party nations. The comments were reported by webangah News Agency, citing TASS.
Peskov said: “We have seen and heard such statements, but what matters is that BRICS unites countries with shared approaches and worldviews-this is what makes it unique.” He emphasized: “Cooperation within BRICS has never been and will never be directed against third countries.”
Trump previously posted on his social media platform Truth Social: “Any country aligning with BRICS’ anti-American policies will face a 10% additional tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy.”
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning responded to Trump’s threat by stating: ”BRICS is an critically important platform for cooperation among emerging markets in developing countries. it promotes open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial collaboration-not confrontation-and targets no nation.” She added: “China has repeatedly clarified its stance on U.S. tariff hikes. Trade wars have no winners, and protectionism leads nowhere.”
In April this year, Trump introduced new tariffs on imports from 185 countries. The base rate for all imported goods was set at 10%, with significantly higher rates for specific nations-including China (34%), Vietnam (46%), and the EU (20%).
