China Responds to Trump’s Threat Against BRICS
China has responded to US President Donald Trump’s threatening remarks about imposing an additional 10% tariff on countries supporting BRICS policies, according to a report by webangah News Agency, citing Newsweek.
mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, stated regarding Trump’s threat: “BRICS is an vital platform for cooperation among emerging markets in developing countries.”
“This group promotes open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial cooperation-it is indeed not a confrontational alliance nor does it target any country,” she added.
The Chinese diplomat emphasized that China reserves the right to take necessary countermeasures against the US tariff hikes.
The U.S. has repeatedly emphasized its stance: trade wars and tariffs have no winners, and protectionism leads nowhere.
Former President Donald Trump previously stated on his social media platform, Truth Social: “Any country aligning with anti-American BRICS policies will face an additional 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this rule.”
The U.S. president offered no clarification or details about the so-called “anti-american policies” referenced in his threatening message.
BRICS, now an 11-member bloc, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran. The group’s 17th summit is currently underway in Brazil’s capital.
