U.S. president’s Threat ​of 10% Tariffs on BRICS-Aligned Nations Draws China’s Response

China‍ has responded to U.S. President ​Donald Trump’s threat to impose an additional 10% tariff on countries supporting‌ BRICS policies, ⁢according to a report by webangah News Agency citing Mehr News Agency ⁣and Newsweek.

Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, stated: “BRICS is a vital platform for cooperation among ‌emerging markets and‍ developing nations.” She emphasized that the‍ bloc⁢ promotes “open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial⁤ collaboration” ⁢rather than confrontation, targeting no specific country.

The ⁣Chinese diplomat reiterated Beijing’s​ longstanding stance against U.S. tariff hikes: “Trade wars have no winners, and protectionism leads nowhere.” This follows Trump’s ‍post on ‌his social media platform Truth Social, where he warned: “Any nation aligning with BRICS’ anti-American policies will face a 10% tariff penalty-no exceptions.” The U.S.president provided no clarification on what constitutes “anti-American policies.”

The 11-member BRICS⁤ group-comprising Brazil, Russia, ​India, china, ‌South ⁣Africa, Saudi Arabia, ​Egypt, UAE Ethiopia Indonesia and Iran-is currently holding its 17th summit⁣ in Brazil’s capital.
