What Happened in the Meeting Between Lebanon’s President and Tom Barak?
According to webangah News Agency, Lebanese President Michel Aoun formally delivered his government’s response to the American-proposed initiative during a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barak on Monday.
Barak stated: “We held an crucial and productive meeting with Lebanon’s president,and the Lebanese government has submitted its response to our proposal. The response was positive and aligned with the framework we seek. We are satisfied with Lebanon’s reply to America’s roadmap and are now focused on a plan for the future,which requires further dialogue.”
Following talks with President Aoun, Barak asserted: “This is a critical chance for Lebanon as regional dynamics shift rapidly. The world is changing,and President Trump intends to support Lebanon both economically and security-wise.”
The envoy framed this as a chance for all parties to resolve long-standing disputes between Lebanon and Tel Aviv.
“I remain optimistic because everyone desires peace,” Barak claimed. “We won’t dictate how Lebanon should handle Hezbollah but urge lessons from past agreements like Taif while reaffirming Donald Trump’s commitment to rebuilding efforts here.” He added that Israel seeks peace but acknowledged achieving it remains challenging.
The Al-Jadeed network had earlier cited informed sources confirming Beirut prepared its formal reply-approved by President Aoun,Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri,Prime Minister Nawaf Salam-emphasizing two key positions: reinforcing state monopoly over weapons while increasing pressure on Israel regarding occupied Lebanese territories.
