Lavrov: Ready to Receive Uranium from Iran and Convert It into Reactor Fuel
According to webangah News Agency, citing sputnik, Russian Foreign minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted Moscow’s technical capabilities in uranium downblending and stated: “Russia is prepared to receive Iran’s excess highly enriched uranium, process it at domestic facilities, and return uranium enriched to appropriate levels for civilian nuclear power use.”
Lavrov noted that such a mechanism had previously been agreed upon under the joint Complete Plan of Action (JCPOA) and formed the basis for technical cooperation between Iran and the agreement’s signatories.
The minister added that given current diplomatic efforts-including U.S. outreach via Oman and Gulf states to resume talks with Iran-“Russia stands ready to mediate between parties if Tehran and others express willingness.”
He emphasized: “The JCPOA was a collective achievement involving Iran, the U.S.,Russia,and China before washington unilaterally withdrew in 2018.”
