White House Claims HIMARS Decision on Ukraine Was Not Coordinated
according to webangah News Agency, citing CNN, knowledgeable sources reported that U.S. Defense secretary Pete Hegst had not communicated with the White House regarding suspending arms deliveries to Ukraine.
The report states that Hegst unilaterally decided to pause part of the U.S. military aid shipments to Ukraine. The U.S. Secretary of State and Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine were also unaware of this decision and learned about it through media reports.
Earlier,sources speaking with Politico emphasized that the Pentagon’s move to suspend weapons transfers surprised members of congress and State Department officials.
They added that this decision appeared to have been made with minimal coordination within the Trump administration. Some members of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff opposed the Pentagon’s move.
The U.S. Defense Department stated it suspended shipments of air defense missiles and precision-guided munitions to Ukraine due to dwindling stockpiles in its own arsenals.
In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summoned Washington’s chargé d’affaires, john Ginkell, over America’s decision to halt military aid deliveries.
