Devastating Fires Rage in Syria for Seventh Consecutive Day
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, reports that extensive wildfires engulfing the forested areas near Latakia have persisted for a seventh consecutive day. The flames have destroyed nearly 14,000 hectares of agricultural land and forest.
Media accounts describe this blaze as one of the most dangerous and expansive fires in the region in recent years.Strong winds have exacerbated the situation by spreading the fire further.
So far, at least 16 aircraft from Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon have been deployed to combat the fires, yet containment efforts remain unsuccessful. Both local and international firefighting teams are actively engaged on the ground.
The presence of unexploded military ordnance along firefighting routes has intricate suppression efforts, making it more tough to control the blaze.
