AI Voice Deepfake of Rubio Deceives U.S. and Foreign Officials

An⁤ American⁣ media ⁢outlet revealed that someone impersonated the ‌U.S. Secretary of State, sending audio​ and text messages to senior foreign and⁤ domestic officials.

The ⁢person mimicked his voice‌ and⁤ writing style to send both audio and⁣ text ⁣messages to several ‌high-ranking officials domestically‌ and abroad.

according to‌ an official report from a senior U.S. ⁣official and‌ the ‍contents of a U.S. State‍ Department ​memo, this individual contacted at least five‍ people via SMS ⁤and the Signal messaging ​app, including three foreign ministers, one state governor, and one ‌member of‌ Congress.

U.S. authorities have yet to ⁢identify the culprit​ or culprits behind ⁤these actions but believe their primary ‍goal was to deceive government officials in‌ order to⁣ access sensitive information or accounts.

The Washington Post noted that in a ‍memo‌ sent by Rubio’s office on July 3rd to State Department staffers, this incident was ​highlighted as a important ​security alert.
