AI Voice Deepfake of Rubio Deceives U.S. and Foreign Officials
The english section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reported that The Washington Post published an exclusive story about an anonymous individual who used artificial intelligence software to impersonate U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The person mimicked his voice and writing style to send both audio and text messages to several high-ranking officials domestically and abroad.
according to an official report from a senior U.S. official and the contents of a U.S. State Department memo, this individual contacted at least five people via SMS and the Signal messaging app, including three foreign ministers, one state governor, and one member of Congress.
U.S. authorities have yet to identify the culprit or culprits behind these actions but believe their primary goal was to deceive government officials in order to access sensitive information or accounts.
