Mass Layoffs at U.S. State Department Leave Over 1,000 Employees Unemployed
according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, more than one thousand Department of State employees have been laid off as part of President Donald Trump’s push to downsize the government.
The layoffs effect 1,107 civil service workers and 246 foreign service personnel.
Earlier this year, over 1,500 Department of State employees voluntarily resigned or took early retirement amid a broader government reorganization effort.
Critics argue that such large-scale workforce reductions harm the department’s effectiveness. Previously, following a deadly flood in Texas that claimed more than 100 lives, critics described staff cuts at the National Weather Service-which weakened its ability to issue timely natural disaster warnings-as detrimental to that agency’s performance.
