Senior German Military Official Warns Ukraine’s Battlefield Situation is Deteriorating

A senior German military official ‌announced that the first shipment of long-range missiles, financed by Germany, will reach Ukraine by late July, while acknowledging Kyiv’s deteriorating battlefield situation.

According to⁢ the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and RT, General Christian Freuding revealed that the initial delivery of long-range missiles to Ukraine is expected by the end of July. He admitted ⁢that Kyiv’s conditions on ⁢the battlefield have worsened.

Freuding, who ⁣oversees coordination of Berlin’s military support ⁢for Kyiv, told ZDF that “Germany is ready ⁤to make these weapons systems available” ‌to Ukraine.

he said Ukraine will receive these weapons before month’s end. Without specifying missile types or ranges, he described their quantity as “large” and in the “three-digit” range.

“We‍ need weapon systems capable of striking deep into Russian territory to target depots, command facilities, military airports, and fighter⁢ jets,” Freuding added.

The shipments ⁤are part of an agreement between Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense and its arms industry with financial ⁢backing from Germany finalized⁤ in late⁤ May.

The German general also dismissed reports that Germany would supply Kyiv with 500-kilometer range “Taurus” missiles. Despite repeated Ukrainian requests, Berlin has consistently refused‌ sending⁣ these ⁤missiles, arguing such a move would escalate⁤ hostilities and‌ drag Germany deeper into the Russia-Ukraine war.

He acknowledged Ukraine faces escalating challenges on the battlefield where⁤ Russian advances are slow but ‍steady. These pressures force ⁣Ukrainian⁤ units⁤ to ⁤retreat into deeper defensive positions ⁤within their own territory.

Referring to a recent ‍massive nighttime Russian assault involving over 700 drones and missiles against‍ Ukraine, Freuding stressed that “the air battle⁤ situation for Kyiv has worsened in recent weeks.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense maintains ⁣it targeted only military installations during ⁢these attacks and ⁣never struck civilian sites.

At the end of May, German ⁢Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed support for Ukrainian domestic production of long-range weapons. He stated kyiv would receive financial backing from berlin to acquire such systems without restrictions on their use.
