Germany and France Respond to Trump’s Anti-European Tariffs
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Berlin and Paris have reacted to the tariffs announced today by the US president.
Al Mayadeen reported that French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the European Union must firmly defend Europe’s interests.
The French president asserted that France, along with the President of the European Commission, strongly objects to the announced 30 percent tariffs on EU exports to the United States effective August 1. Specifically, this means accelerating preparations for credible countermeasures using all available tools if no agreement is reached by then.
Meanwhile,Agence France-Presse quoted a German minister who said Berlin urges the EU to negotiate pragmatically with Washington following Trump’s new tariffs.
Earlier, US President donald Trump declared that from early next month additional tariffs up to 30 percent would be imposed on both the European Union and Mexico. He added that if retaliatory tariffs are applied by the EU against the US, they will increase their tariffs further.
