US Envoy Retracts Threatening Remarks Against Lebanon

According to the English section of⁤ webangah ‌News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Mayadeen, Tom Barrett, the US ⁢Special envoy to‌ Syria,⁤ retracted his threatening comments made yesterday against ⁢Lebanon, stating he did​ not intend ⁣to threaten the country.

He claimed that the United States ⁣seeks equal ​relations based on respect for sovereignty between Damascus and Beirut.

barrett added that his⁢ remarks were meant to highlight “progress” in Syria‍ and should never be⁤ interpreted as ‍a threat⁣ against Lebanon.

Yesterday, in an interview‍ with an Emirati newspaper, he had warned that Lebanon would ⁤face ⁢existential threats if it failed ‍to ‍resolve the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons.
