Israeli Minister: Gaza Must Remain Devastated for Decades
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Israel’s Energy Minister Eli Cohen said that Gaza should remain in ruins for decades. He asserted that Tel Aviv has no plans to help rebuild the Gaza Strip’s infrastructure after the current devastating war ends.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 14, Cohen outlined two main objectives for the Israeli military in Gaza: first, to secure the return of Hamas captives held in Gaza; second, to force Hamas into submission.
the Israeli channel noted on its website that Cohen’s remarks came as a response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent trip to Washington. Netanyahu described this visit as “historic” following his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu returned to Tel Aviv on friday after a five-day official visit-the third trip he has made to the United States in six months.
During this visit, he met twice with trump at the White House alongside senior American officials.
A ceasefire announcement was expected during this trip but did not materialize. meanwhile, doha is hosting renewed indirect negotiations between delegations from Hamas and Israel under Qatari and Egyptian mediation with U.S. participation aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange.
