Latest Update on Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, Symbol of Palestinian Resistance

Dr. Hussam⁤ Abusafieh, director of ⁣Kamal Adwan Hospital and a symbol of Gaza’s people’s resistance against the Israeli occupation army, is enduring dire conditions in Israeli prisons.

According to the English section of webangah ⁣News Agency,citing the Palestinian​ Information Center via ⁢Mehr News ⁣Agency,Gheith Qasem,lawyer for Dr. Hussam Abusafieh,⁢ revealed alarming details ⁢about the doctor’s⁣ physical condition during recent prison visits.

Images showing Dr.Abusafieh standing bare-handed against Israeli tanks-during a violation of international law when they attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital months ⁤ago-went viral on social media‌ as a powerful symbol of Gaza’s war-torn and starving population resisting one of the‌ world’s most heavily ‍armed armies.

The Palestinian lawyer noted that his last meeting with Dr.‌ Abusafieh took place on July 9, 2025. As his detention ‍began, Dr. Abusafieh has lost over 40 kilograms-more than one third⁣ of his body weight.

He weighed approximately 100 kilograms at arrest but now weighs no more than 60 kilograms.

Qasem further disclosed that on June 24, 2025, Dr. Abusafieh was subjected to a severe beating ⁣by⁢ prison authorities.

The suppression units at ⁢Ofer Prison stormed his cell (Room 1 / Section 24) and beat⁣ him for half an hour.

The lawyer emphasized that ⁣during this ⁤brutal assault he suffered heavy blows to his chest and visible bruising on his face, head, back, and⁤ neck.

Despite requests for medical treatment-including necessary⁢ tests and‍ referral to a cardiologist-the prison governance denied all demands.

Dr.hussam suffers ​from irregular heartbeat complications; furthermore,glasses recently provided by his lawyer have been broken.

This prominent ⁣Palestinian prisoner remains‌ clothed in only⁤ winter garments amid conditions ‍marked by hunger, torture, isolation without sunlight exposure while being held underground.

Previously, Qasem described that in​ the early⁤ days after arrest Dr. Abusafieh spent 25 days in solitary ⁣confinement at Ofer Prison where he underwent multiple interrogations-the longest lasting thirteen consecutive days.
