Who Was Martyr Mohammad Zeif, the Mastermind Behind Operation Al-Aqsa Storm?

Mohammed Deif, who was martyred in Gaza last year, is recognized as one of the main architects of‌ the ⁢Al-Aqsa Storm operation.

According to the English section of webangah News‌ agency,⁣ citing Mehr News Agency and al Jazeera, martyr Mohammed Deif-whose real name was​ Mohammed Ibrahim Diab al-Masri-was born in 1965 into⁤ a refugee​ family⁢ inside occupied Palestine.

Throughout his⁤ years of struggle,Deif lived under deep secrecy and obscurity. His nickname “Deif,”⁢ meaning “guest,” reflected⁣ that⁤ he never stayed long in any one place.

He joined Hamas at its founding in 1987 and played a key role in establishing and leading⁣ the Izz ad-Din ⁣al-Qassam Brigades. In 2002, he took command as‍ their overall leader.

Deif was arrested in 1989 on⁢ charges related to military activity⁤ and spent 16 months imprisoned without trial.

In 1995, he appeared on Israel’s wanted list.

He is credited with advancing Palestinian resistance capabilities by ‍developing rocket production and establishing an extensive⁢ tunnel network.

Under Deif’s leadership, the al-Qassam Brigades‌ grew from small cells into a structured force resembling an organized army with various brigades and divisions.

Israel attempted to assassinate him seven times. During⁢ one​ such attack, he was seriously⁤ wounded while his wife and two children were killed.

Mohammed⁢ Deif was a ‍principal planner behind ​the October 7 ​attack. His speech marked the launch of “Operation Al-Aqsa storm.” According to footage released by Al Jazeera,​ he oversaw the⁣ final stages of preparation ‍for this operation.

He was ultimately martyred ‍during an Israeli strike on July 13,2024,in Khan Younis.
