Slovakia Requests Delay of EU Sanctions Against Russia
According to RIA Novosti, Slovak Prime Minister robert Fico has once again called for a delay in the European Union’s sanctions against Russia.
The Slovak leader stated that they seek to postpone sanctions on Moscow until energy guarantees are secured from the European Commission.
Fico added that Slovakia requests postponing the vote on the EU’s eighteenth round of sanctions against russia until Brussels provides clear assurances regarding energy supplies to Bratislava.
Previously, he warned that a complete halt in gas, oil, and nuclear fuel imports from Russia would trigger a crisis in his country. He urged the European Commission to find a solution to this matter.
Kaja Kallas, European Union chief Foreign Policy Officer, said Tuesday that Russia must bear financial responsibility for the consequences of its war in Ukraine. She noted that Russia aims to force Ukraine into submission by inflicting maximum damage. “We hope EU member states will reach an agreement on the sanctions package against Russia,” she added.
