According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr News Agency and al-Nashra, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that Tom Breck, the US envoy to Syria, emphasized that stopping financial support for Hezbollah-especially through the Qard al-Hasan institution-is a key priority for the United States.
Bruce added that she appreciates the efforts made by Lebanon’s central bank governor in this matter and considers them steps in the right direction; however, more action is needed.
pressing lebanon’s government on this issue, she urged officials to abandon claims that Qard al-Hasan operates as a non-governmental organization compliant with Lebanese law.
The US State Department alleged that this institution functions as a financial channel exploited by Hezbollah and asserted it harms Lebanon’s official economy.
Karim Sayyed, the new governor of lebanon’s central bank who issued directives banning activities of the fully legal Qard al-Hasan institution, aligns with Riyad Salameh and other American-backed figures advocating for dismantling resistance groups like Hezbollah. In fact, Sayyed sees his appointment as an obligation to fully implement US demands and pursue economic siege against Hezbollah.
