U.S. State Department Moves to Halt Financial Flows to Lebanon’s Hezbollah

The US Department of‍ State claimed ⁤that halting financial support ‍to Lebanon’s‌ Hezbollah⁣ through ‌the Qard⁤ al-Hasan institution is a priority and expressed recognition for ongoing efforts in this regard.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting ⁣Mehr News⁤ Agency and al-Nashra, US State Department spokesperson Tammy⁤ Bruce stated that Tom Breck, the US envoy to Syria, ‌emphasized that⁢ stopping financial support for Hezbollah-especially through the Qard al-Hasan ⁤institution-is ⁣a key priority for the United States.

Bruce added that‍ she appreciates the efforts made by Lebanon’s central bank governor in this matter‍ and considers⁢ them steps in the right direction; however, more action ⁤is needed.

pressing ‌lebanon’s government on this issue, she ‍urged officials to‌ abandon claims that Qard al-Hasan operates as a non-governmental ‌organization compliant ⁤with Lebanese law.

The⁣ US State Department alleged that this institution functions as‍ a financial ⁢channel exploited by Hezbollah and asserted ⁣it harms Lebanon’s official economy.

Karim Sayyed, the new governor of lebanon’s central bank who issued directives banning activities of‍ the fully ‍legal Qard‌ al-Hasan institution, aligns with Riyad Salameh and ⁤other⁣ American-backed⁤ figures advocating for dismantling resistance groups like Hezbollah.⁢ In fact, Sayyed sees his appointment as ⁤an obligation to fully implement US demands and ‌pursue economic siege against Hezbollah.
