Germany: Ukraine Faces Long Road Ahead to EU Membership
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized at a joint press conference with the Romanian president in Berlin that ending the war in Ukraine is currently their top priority.
He added that negotiations on Ukraine’s reconstruction will begin after the conflict ends. this process could eventually lead to Ukraine joining the European Union, but it is expected to take several years.
Merz noted that provided that Ukraine remains at war, EU accession is virtually impractical.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also stated that public opinion across Europe has become convinced that Ukraine’s membership would pose notable challenges that will be tough to overcome.
