U.S. Cancels Visa of Brazilian Supreme Court Justice
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr news Agency and Axios, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States is canceling the visa of a Brazilian Supreme Court judge overseeing legal proceedings against former President Jair Bolsonaro.
The report notes that Donald trump repeatedly supported his far-right allies worldwide, including Bolsonaro, describing them as victims of ideological “witch hunts.”
In recent threats to impose 50 percent tariffs on Brazil, Trump cited Bolsonaro’s prosecution on charges related to an attempted coup as one reason for these measures.
Brazil has repeatedly affirmed that its judiciary is independent and will not allow Washington to interfere in its internal affairs.
This stance was echoed yesterday by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who stated he would not take directions from a foreign leader regarding tariffs.
Lula described America’s tariff threats as “unacceptable extortion” and said Brazil was prepared to respond accordingly.
Lula da Silva’s position follows announced plans by the U.S. to impose 50 percent tariffs on Brazil starting in August.
Trump attributed these proposed tariffs both to how Brazil has treated Bolsonaro-frequently enough called ”the Trump of Brazil”-and what he described as unfair trade practices against American companies.
