University of Florence in Italy Halts Scientific Collaboration with the Zionist Regime
The University of Florence in Italy has decided to cut its academic collaborations with Israeli institutions following the Zionist regime’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, according to a report by webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and the Palestine Facts Center. Italian media report that five faculties-including Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Agricultural sciences, Architecture, and Political and Social Sciences-have resolved to end their scientific and research relations with Zionist entities.
This move is part of expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and protesting against the occupier policies of the Zionist regime. The Hebrew-language site Walla reported that the Faculties of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Florence have officially halted cooperation with Ben-Gurion University. Additionally, the Faculty of Architecture has terminated its collaboration with Ariel University, located in one of the settlements on occupied West Bank territory.
Furthermore, the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences ceased its joint project with Tel Aviv University’s Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center. These decisions mark Florence’s participation in the global Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign aimed at stopping academic, economic, and cultural ties with Israel as a protest against human rights violations and occupation in Palestinian lands. The university’s decision has received widespread support from pro-Palestinian groups across Italy and Europe. Analysts consider it a sign that scientific and cultural sanctions against Israel are gaining traction within European academic circles.
