Moscow: Putin-Trump Meeting Is Essential
Dmitry Peskov,Kremlin spokesperson, highlighted Russia’s ongoing special military operation in Ukraine and stressed that Moscow aims to fulfill the objectives of this operation.
He noted that the world has grown accustomed to the occasional “harsh” tone from former U.S. President Donald Trump. However, Trump continues to emphasize efforts toward securing a peace agreement involving Russia.
Peskov added that President Putin has repeatedly expressed his desire to swiftly move the resolution of the Ukraine crisis onto a peaceful path. He acknowledged this process will be lengthy, require effort, and will not be easy.
Furthermore, Peskov called a meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump essential for confirming important achievements so far but indicated these efforts are still ongoing and such a meeting will take place at an appropriate time.
The Russian diplomat concluded by saying: “Our main focus is achieving our goals, which are entirely clear.”
Last Monday, Trump adopted a tougher stance on Moscow by announcing new military aid for Ukraine. This package includes Patriot air defense systems funded entirely by NATO. He also claimed that Russia has 50 days to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine or face secondary sanctions.
