Heavy Rain Paralyzes Moscow + Video
Moscow,Russia’s capital,faced widespread flooding again following heavy rains,marking the second such event in one week. This comes according to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RT.
The Russian Federal service for Hydrometeorology reported that by 9 a.m.local time today, a meteorological station in Moscow had recorded rainfall equivalent to 33 percent of the city’s average monthly precipitation.
Videos circulating on social media show parking lots submerged underwater, cars floating in floodwaters, and pedestrians struggling to navigate flooded metro entrances.
According to meteorologists, the rain is expected to continue through the day. Moscow’s transportation authorities have urged residents to avoid driving and rather rely on public transit whenever possible.
A yellow weather warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. tonight for Moscow and its surrounding areas. Forecasters have also warned of strong winds exceeding 15 meters per second as well as thunderstorms accompanied by hail.
Flash floods last Tuesday caused similar disruptions throughout Moscow. Climate scientists have long cautioned that Russia is increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events like prolonged heatwaves and intense rainfall.
