Erdogan Claims Regional Countries Will Benefit from Zangazur Corridor
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan voiced support for the Zangezur Corridor project. He asserted that in addition to Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey, other countries in the region will also benefit from this corridor.
Erdoğan expressed hope that this route could become a symbol of reconciliation. He stated that regional countries can resolve the matter through consensus.
The Turkish president noted that Azerbaijan’s President Ilham aliyev places great importance on Zangezur and aims to have this corridor operational as soon as possible.
One of the main points of contention between Baku and Yerevan is a corridor known as Zangezur, wich would connect mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenian territory. Armenia rejects using the term “Zangezur Corridor,” arguing it carries secessionist connotations against Armenian sovereignty.
Armenia has repeatedly maintained that no corridor can operate across its land. Iran has also stressed it does not accept any geopolitical changes in the region.
The president described a two-state model as key to resolving disputes between northern and southern Cyprus, adding that no compromise on this issue will be accepted.
Erdoğan emphasized Turkey’s continued support for Abu Mohammad al-Julani [Ahmad al-Shara], stating: “Improving conditions in Syria is beneficial for turkey. We will provide various forms of assistance to accelerate voluntary returns.” He added Turkey wants Syria to quickly return to normalcy and secure its southern border.
The Turkish president reiterated that Turkey has never removed gaza from its agenda nor will it do so in the future: “We stand firmly with Gaza. The people of Gaza will not surrender; though, Israel attacks like a mad beast and rabid dog from all directions-and this rage will lead to its own destruction.”
