Gradual Death in Gaza by Hunger Weapon; The Tragedy of Children Eating Sand
Mehr News Agency, International Desk: As the destructive war of the Zionist regime against the Gaza Strip nears its second year, this enclave is experiencing its worst disaster yet; hunger has become a silent weapon killing people indiscriminately-from infants to the elderly.
Since dawn on Sunday, the effects of starvation in Gaza have peaked. The highest death toll among starving Palestinians in this strip results both from complications caused by malnutrition and from gunfire by Israeli forces targeting starving civilians near American-Zionist centers that serve as death traps.
People forced to eat dirt from severe hunger
Activists on social media have shared harrowing images depicting this catastrophic stage of hunger in Gaza. These images show starving individuals on the brink of death resorting to eating soil in a desperate bid for survival.
Sand and soil become food for Gaza’s children
in one distressing scene,activists posted a video of a young girl near a refugee tent in northern Gaza City eating sand due to extreme hunger. The girl, appearing no older than five years old, sits amid rubble collecting sand with a small stone and consumes it. In Gaza, stones have turned into spoons and sand into food.
Another painful video circulating online shows a grieving father in Zeekim area in northern Gaza weeping bitterly over his son who was shot dead by israeli soldiers while trying to secure food amidst starvation. The child appears emaciated and covered in blood-a victim surrendered to death through Israel’s starvation warfare against Gaza where hunger is used as an instrument of killing.
The occupying regime not only starves children and all people of Gaza but also massacres starving Palestinians near so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” centers affiliated with Israel and the United States by shooting them dead.
Activists also shared images of Muhammad Al-Suafiri, a disabled Palestinian citizen from Gaza who died due to starvation.
Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestinian Territories, has stated that Israel deliberately starves two million people inside Gaza while massacring children.
She added: “Our generation grew up believing Nazism was mankind’s greatest evil; today there is another entity (referring to Israel) keeping millions hungry while shooting children. This marks an unprecedented abyss of savagery-how will we escape it?”
The European-mediterranean Human Rights Watch also shared an image via social media showing a dead infant in Gaza whose ribs protruded prominently from severe malnutrition.
The association emphasized: Another child has died from starvation-Yahya, just three months old-the seventy-fifth child killed as part of Israel’s war using starvation against Gaza.
Rami Abdo, founder and head of European-Mediterranean Human Rights Watch published these heartbreaking photos depicting Palestinians collapsing helplessly due to intensified siege conditions combined with ongoing Israeli starvation warfare against this enclave-in many cases unable even to walk anymore.
