Kremlin: West Is Escalating Nuclear Tensions
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, quoting Mehr news Agency via Sputnik, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian presidency (the Kremlin), commented on the Ukraine-Russia negotiations.
Peskov stated that there is no sign of progress in the new round of talks and emphasized that Russia seeks to guarantee its own interests.
He highlighted Russia’s belief that the West is moving toward escalating tensions, including nuclear ones.
At the same time, Peskov expressed hope regarding this week’s new round of negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a third round of Kyiv-Russia talks would be held on Wednesday in Turkey.
While Zelensky mentioned Wednesday for these talks,TASS quoted an unnamed source reporting they are scheduled for July 24 (Thursday,August 2). The source added that delegations might arrive in Istanbul on July 23 (Tuesday, August 1).
Moscow and Kyiv have held two rounds so far, with Ukraine’s delegation led by Amiroff both times.
The first direct Russia-Ukraine meeting took place in Istanbul on May 16 (May 6 Gregorian) and resulted in a major prisoner exchange involving roughly one thousand people from each side but did not lead to any peace breakthroughs.
The second round was also held in Istanbul on June 2 (June 12 Gregorian), culminating in an agreement to exchange at least 1,200 prisoners from each side and return thousands of war dead remains.
