Israeli Military Official Calls for Ceasefire, Emphasizes Need for Rest
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today, Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israeli military, called for moving toward a long-term ceasefire in Gaza amid the failure to eliminate Hamas.
During a military meeting at the Gililot base reviewing conditions in Gaza, Zamir admitted that after two years of continuous conflict in Gaza, the army requires an operational pause.
Zamir stated that this conflict has delayed efforts to rebuild the army. For a second consecutive year, the Israeli army has not conducted any live-fire exercises with real ammunition, which negatively affects troop readiness.
According to an annual assessment by the Israeli military, the prolonged war in Gaza has yielded no significant achievements and has failed to destroy Hamas.
zamir also acknowledged internal tensions within the army as one of several risks facing Israeli forces.
