Hamas Fury Over Mahmoud Abbas’s New Decision
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and anadolu, Hamas condemned Mahmoud Abbas’s decision to hold elections for the Palestine National Council. The movement warned that making such critical decisions without consensus among Palestinian groups would deepen divisions among Palestinians.
In a statement, Hamas described Mahmoud Abbas’s plan to hold Palestine National Council elections by the end of 2025 as a “violation of collective national will.” The group expressed serious concern over this unilateral move, which thay said contradicts the national agreements signed between various Palestinian factions.
Hamas called the decision a clear disregard for agreements reached in Cairo, Algiers, Moscow, and Beijing. The movement demanded an immediate halt to any unilateral actions and urged the Palestinian people and factions to oppose this exclusionary approach.
The Palestinian Authority leadership has not yet responded to Hamas’s statement.
Mahmoud Abbas recently issued a decree ordering new elections for the Palestine National Council before the end of this year. on july 17, 2025, during a meeting in Ramallah, the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Association decided to hold these elections under an electoral system with dates set by its chairman ahead of year-end.
