Europe Decides to Propose Extending the “Snapback Mechanism” to Iran
The English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reported that Reuters claimed Europe intends to propose a six-month extension of the snapback activation period to Iran during talks scheduled for Friday in istanbul.
The European side, disregarding its commitments toward Iran, plans to condition this extension on tehran resuming negotiations with Washington, fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and making commitments regarding 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium stockpiles whose status remains unresolved since the 12-day war.
According to Reuters, a U.S. government official also stated that Washington is aligned with the European troika on triggering the snapback mechanism.
The report further noted that these three European countries-unwilling to lose leverage over Iran once the JCPOA formally ends-have warned they will activate the snapback if no new agreement on Iran’s nuclear program is reached.
Officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran have consistently emphasized that the European troika has failed to fulfill its JCPOA obligations and described their efforts to trigger snapback as an illegal abuse that must be opposed.
