Hamas Movement Expresses Surprise Over Witkoff’s Remarks on Gaza Ceasefire Talks
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement expressing surprise at negative comments made by Steve Witkoff, former US special envoy for Middle East peace under President Donald Trump, regarding the movement’s position on a ceasefire.
Hamas recalled that regional mediators have welcomed and expressed satisfaction with its positive and constructive stance-a position that could pave the way for reaching a comprehensive agreement.
The movement emphasized that from the start of negotiations,it has approached all issues with national duty and flexibility. Hamas has consistently sought an agreement to end war and aggression and stop the suffering of palestinians in Gaza.
Hamas stated it had presented its final response following extensive consultations with Palestinian factions, mediators, and friendly countries. It engaged positively with all concerns raised-demonstrating genuine commitment to the success of mediation efforts and constructive interaction with all proposed plans.
The movement concluded by affirming its commitment to continue negotiations in a manner that removes obstacles and achieves a lasting ceasefire agreement.
These remarks came after witkoff claimed that following Hamas’ response-which he said showed unwillingness to reach an agreement on Gaza-his team decided to withdraw from Doha for consultations.
Without mentioning Israeli regime crimes against civilians in Gaza, he further alleged: “It seems Hamas is out of sync despite notable mediator efforts and lacks good faith.”
The American official also claimed they would now explore choice options for returning hostages home and strive to create a more sustainable environment for Gazans.
He described Hamas’ reply to the ceasefire proposal-as embodying efforts to protect Palestinian interests-as “selfish.”
Witkoff concluded his claims by stating: “We are determined to end this conflict and achieve lasting peace in Gaza.”
