Kremlin Responds to Imminent Putin-Zelensky Meeting
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Nashra, the Kremlin dismissed Kyiv’s proposal to hold a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin by the end of August as unfeasible.
On Friday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that no plans currently exist for a meeting between Putin and zelensky. He emphasized that such a summit could only take place as a final step toward signing a peace agreement.
Peskov added, “It is unlikely that this meeting will happen by the end of August as Ukraine has proposed. A summit should serve as the concluding point of an agreement, confirming terms negotiated by experts. Attempting to do this in reverse is unachievable. Is it realistic to complete such a complex process within 30 days? Obviously not.”
Reports indicate Ukraine suggested last week arranging talks between Zelensky and Putin. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump threatened new sanctions against Russia and its commodity buyers if no deal is reached by early September.
Responding to this threat, Peskov said it is improbable that matters could be resolved overnight since it requires highly intricate diplomatic efforts.
