Rubio Claims US Ready to Mediate Cambodia-Thailand Talks
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, representing a country with the highest records of instigating conflict worldwide, announced on Sunday his readiness to assist in negotiations between Cambodia and Thailand.
The US Secretary of State stated: “We are ready to help facilitate talks between Cambodia and Thailand.”
He claimed that the United States stands prepared to support negotiations aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
This comes while Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Mohamed Hassan, previously emphasized that there is no need for US mediation regarding tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.
The Malaysian official added: “I am waiting for a call from Rubio (US Secretary of State), as they want to know how they can help; however, malaysia must mediate first. This is an ASEAN matter, and as chair, we must lead this issue.”
According to Russia Today’s report, Thailand and Cambodia will hold talks on Monday, July 28 in Kuala Lumpur with the goal of ending clashes.
