Macron’s Advisor: We Are Surprised by the Controversy Sparked by Tel Aviv
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Emmanuel Macron’s advisor stressed in an interview with Al Jazeera that more Israeli soldiers are dying in clashes with Hamas. ”Our message to Tel Aviv is clear: the war must stop, and humanitarian aid must be allowed into Gaza,” he said.
he added that France’s presidents have supported a two-state solution for more than 40 years. ”We do not understand why Tel Aviv is upset by Macron’s stance,” he noted.
The French official also expressed surprise at Tel Aviv’s strong reaction to Paris’s recognition of Palestine as a state.
This comes despite France being politically and militarily supportive of Israel, including during its offensive on Gaza.
On Sunday, Israel summoned France’s deputy ambassador to the occupied Palestinian territories in response to Macron’s verbal statements about Paris’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state.
President Emmanuel Macron previously stated that he had spoken with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi about the catastrophic and unacceptable humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Macron said, “we cannot accept children starving in Gaza. I will officially recognize the Palestinian government at next September’s United Nations General Assembly.”
