North Korea: U.S. Must Abandon Any Thought of Pyongyang’s Nuclear Disarmament
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Kim Yo-jong, Vice Director of the Central Committee of North Korea’s ruling party and sister of leader Kim Jong-un, warned the United States that no dialogue with Pyongyang will result in its nuclear disarmament.
The North Korean official emphasized in a statement published by the country’s central news agency that understanding the “fundamental shift” in Pyongyang’s capabilities and geopolitical landscape is a prerequisite for any future developments.
She stated firmly: Any attempt to deny the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s status as a nuclear state-reflected by its strong nuclear deterrence and affirmed by its supreme law, expressing the will of all its people-will be completely unacceptable.
Kim Yo-jong added that North Korea welcomes all options to defend its current national stance. She stressed that confrontation is beneficial neither for Washington nor for Pyongyang, urging the U.S. to find option ways to establish contact based on this principle.
She also noted that relations between kim Jong-un and former U.S. President Donald Trump are “not bad,” but insisted any effort to exploit their personal connection toward advancing Pyongyang’s “nuclear disarmament would be absurd.”
The senior official warned if Washington fails to accept this changed reality and insists on past failed positions, then talks between north Korea and the U.S. will remain merely an American wishful thinking.
This statement from Kim Yo-jong comes after South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency quoted a White House source saying Trump welcomed contact with Kim Jong-un aimed at “complete denuclearization” of North Korea.
