6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Eastern Russia; Japan Orders Evacuation
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake shook eastern Russia.
According to teh English section of webangah News agency, citing Mehr news Agency and Reuters, the United States Geological Survey reported a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region of eastern Russia.
Following the quake, the Japanese government issued warnings.
Japan’s national broadcaster NHK reported that Tokyo authorities have ordered urgent evacuations for residents in parts of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
No reports have yet confirmed casualties or damage, but Japanese officials expressed concerns about a possible tsunami.
The Kamchatka region is located within the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire.
