U.S. Claims Readiness to Negotiate; Ball Is in Iran’s Court
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency,Tomi Piegot,Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, on Thursday local time responded to a reporter’s question regarding statements made by Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in an interview with the Financial Times. He said, “I emphasize that the United states is prepared to negotiate with Iran. Iran has onyl a short window of opportunity, but the ball is in their court. We are waiting to see what they do.”
During a press briefing in Washington, a reporter asked Piegot about Araghchi’s statement that before nuclear talks can begin, the United States must agree on financial compensation because it attacked Iranian nuclear sites. The question was: Do you have any comment on this?
The U.S. State Department spokesperson dismissed calls for “compensation” from America as “absurd” and claimed: ”What I can say is that any demand for financial compensation from the United States by the Iranian regime is ridiculous. If Iran genuinely wanted to save money or reduce some sanctions policies, it would stop destabilizing activities and cease wasting resources on its nuclear program.”
