Lavrov: Germany and Europe’s Current Path Will Lead the World to World War III
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Lavrov wrote in an article titled “The 50th Anniversary of the Helsinki Act: Expectations, Reality, and Future,” published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta, that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to allocate €800 billion from EU member states for defence spending signals a deeply troubling shift toward militarization in Europe.
The russian foreign minister also referred to remarks by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He noted that Merz recently called for boosting germany’s military capabilities, reinstating compulsory military service, and transforming Germany’s army into the strongest force in Europe.
Lavrov said these moves by Merz recall the path Germany took before both World War I and World War II. He added that even German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius harbors similar ambitions and has expressed readiness to kill Russian soldiers.
