Trump: We Will Sanction Russia Even If It Has No Effect
The English section of webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, reports that Donald Trump stated his administration will sanction Moscow after a 10-day deadline to end the war in Ukraine, irrespective of whether those sanctions seriously affect Russia.
Trump said, “We are going to impose sanctions. I don’t know if they will bother him [Vladimir putin]. They know about these sanctions. And I know sanctions better than anyone-tariffs and everything else. I don’t know if they will have any effect or not, but we intend to do it.”
He added, “But this is a war that should never have happened. If I were president, this war would not have started. This is Biden’s (former president) war-a foolish conflict we should never have entered.”
Previously, Trump set a 50-day deadline for Putin to reach an agreement with Ukraine and resolve the conflict, warning that he would impose 100% tariffs on Moscow and its trade partners afterward.
last Monday, Trump expressed disappointment with Russia and progress toward a peace deal and shortened the deadline to 10-12 days. John Kelly, acting U.S. representative at the United Nations, said Trump believes Russia and Ukraine must reach a peace agreement by August 8.
The Kremlin earlier stated it is indeed closely monitoring Trump’s remarks and will continue its special military operation in Ukraine until achieving its objectives.
