What Is the Fate of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces Legislation?

One member of the Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi Parliament discussed the ⁤Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) law and related consultations.

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Rudaw, Hussein al-Amiri, a member of the Security and Defense Committee in Iraq’s Council ​of Representatives, stated that the PMF ‌law is ready and will be ⁢scheduled for a parliamentary vote on Saturday.

He saeid that⁣ the Security⁣ and Defense Committee has put all articles of the ⁣PMF ⁤law to a vote. Political forces with portrayal in this committee agree on its ⁣approval.

Al-Amiri added that intensive⁣ consultations have taken place in recent days regarding ​this law.​ Government concerns were addressed, especially those involving the administrative structure of the ⁢PMF organization-such as positions like deputy head and secretary-general. ‌Proposals related‍ to ‍management roles connected to PMF activities⁤ were also reviewed.

He‍ emphasized that representatives ‍will collect signatures to ​submit to parliament’s presidium so​ that this law will be placed on Saturday’s ⁣parliamentary session agenda. ⁢The Popular Mobilization Forces serve as Iraq’s security valve, fighting ⁤alongside⁣ security forces to protect national security and sovereignty.

Al-Amiri confirmed that the PMF law enjoys broad support⁢ from ⁤political groups including kurds and Sunni Arabs, with no ​meaningful objections reported ahead of the upcoming vote.
