State of Emergency Declared in New York and New Jersey After Heavy Rainfall
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and The Guardian, reports that following a powerful storm system sweeping the U.S. East Coast from new York to Washington, local officials in New York and New Jersey have declared states of emergency.
Meteorologists had earlier forecasted intense rainfall for these areas. Rainfall rates reached up to three inches (over 7 centimeters) per hour, with some localized spots receiving between five and eight inches.
New York authorities warned that severe downpours could cause flooding on streets, parts of the subway system, and basements. officials advised residents living in underground apartments to move to higher floors and urged all New Yorkers to avoid non-essential travel.
Images and videos released show water entering sections of the New York subway system,even dripping from station ceilings.
Airports across New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia reported numerous delayed or canceled flights due to adverse weather conditions.
