Baghdad Responds to Reports of Ban on Syrian Entry into Iraq
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via Russia Today, reported that Miqdad miri, spokesperson for the Supreme Committee for the Security of religious Ceremonies in Iraq, denied media reports claiming a ban on syrians entering Iraq.
Miri stated that thes news reports are unfounded and inaccurate.
He added that anyone with proper legal documents-whether visiting for pilgrimage or tourism-is allowed to enter Iraqi territory. He urged media outlets and citizens to exercise caution when sharing news.
Yesterday, Iraqi outlet Baghdad Today quoted a security source announcing a ban on syrian nationals entering Iraq.
The security source said on Friday that Iraqi Prime Minister mohammed Shia al-Sudani had ordered a complete prohibition on Syrians entering Iraq during the Arbaeen ceremonies period.
The source explained that al-Sudani’s order includes even those holding official monthly or yearly visas.
The source emphasized that this measure was taken as part of special security and administrative arrangements for the commemoration of Imam Hussein’s Arbaeen (peace be upon him).
