Moscow Issues First Response to U.S. Nuclear Submarine Deployment Near Russia
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, addressed remarks made today by US President Donald Trump, who stated that “the country’s nuclear submarines have reached where they needed to be.” Speaking to webangah News Agency citing The Guardian adn Mehr News agency, Peskov said Moscow has no interest in engaging in debate with Trump over this matter.
Peskov downplayed Trump’s statements, noting that it was already clear before the US president’s proclamation that “American submarines were on alert.”
He emphasized that Russia takes nuclear non-proliferation very seriously. “We believe everyone must exercise extreme caution when it comes to nuclear rhetoric,” he added.
Regarding steve Whitcaff’s upcoming visit-Trump’s special envoy for West Asia-to Russia, Peskov said Moscow is “eagerly awaiting his trip later this week” and considers it important, noteworthy, and constructive.
the senior Russian diplomat also mentioned that as Whitcaff and President Vladimir Putin have met several times before, arranging another meeting between them is among the possible options.
