Moscow Declares It Does Not Recognize Obligations Under Intermediate-Range Missile Restrictions
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Sputnik via Mehr News Agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared on Monday that Western actions involving the deployment of intermediate-range missiles pose a direct threat to Russia’s security. The cumulative Western deployments have increased missile capabilities in regions bordering Russia, creating a strategic and direct threat to national security.
The Ministry added that Moscow no longer feels obliged to adhere to its unilateral limitations on deploying land-based intermediate- and short-range missiles. The necessary conditions for maintaining this suspension have ceased to exist.
The statement further noted that Moscow’s call for NATO to mutually suspend deployments of weapons systems violating these missile restrictions has not been met with reciprocal measures from the alliance. The United States and its allies have not only openly announced plans to deploy land-based intermediate-range missiles in multiple regions but have also made notable progress in implementing these deployments.
