India Reacts to Trump’s Executive Order Against New Delhi
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the United States’ proclamation of additional tariffs as “unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable.” The ministry emphasized that India would take all necessary steps to safeguard its national interests, according to a report by webangah News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen via Mehr News Agency.
The ministry’s statement expressed regret over Washington’s decision to impose higher tariffs on New Delhi. It underscored that India’s imports are driven by market factors and guided by broader objectives aimed at ensuring energy security for its 1.4 billion population.
Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing a 25 percent additional tariff on India.
The White House explained that these extra tariffs target India’s purchase of Russian oil, including transactions conducted thru intermediaries or third countries. The origin of the oil must be traceable back to Russia in a reasonable manner.
This action follows Trump’s social media post on Monday via Truth Social, accusing India not only of buying large amounts of Russian oil but also reselling important quantities on the open market at substantial profits. He criticized India for disregarding Ukrainian casualties caused by Russia’s military operations and announced his intention to substantially raise tariffs imposed by India on U.S. goods.
Trump’s professed concern for Ukrainians is especially notable given the ongoing daily casualties among Palestinians in their homeland due to Israeli occupation forces’ actions over recent months.
Moreover, this comes as Trump recently made baseless claims contradicting extensive documented reports by multiple reliable media outlets. He asserted that Israeli actions cannot be considered genocide against Palestinians-a stance widely ridiculed even among America’s European allies.
