Widespread Assault on Gaza Would Kill Many Israeli Soldiers and Prisoners
The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, reported that the Hebrew newspaper Maariv quoted Israeli military sources saying that today the Israeli army will inform political officials about the potential losses and costs they would face if they proceed with occupying the Gaza Strip.
The military sources admitted that estimates show most hostages are likely to be killed by their captors or in airstrikes if military operations expand in Gaza.
They added that, according to assessments, a widening of the military campaign could also lead to a significant number of Israeli soldier casualties.
The report further quoted Israeli military sources stating their estimates indicate an effort to occupy Gaza-which must include destroying tunnels-could take at least three months.
Israeli officials warned that after completing occupation, IsraelS army would be forced to impose martial law and manage the situation for 2.5 million Palestinians living there.
