Massacre of Nearly 10,000 in Syria Since Julani Took Power
the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Mayadeen, reported that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented 9,889 deaths across Syria following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government. Among these fatalities are 7,449 civilians killed amid ongoing violence, human rights violations, and widespread security chaos.
According to the organization’s report, these figures cover the period from December 8, 2024-the date marking Assad’s government downfall-through August 6, 2025. The casualties resulted from “continuous violence and abuses by local and foreign actors alongside extensive security turmoil.”
The Syrian Observatory underlined that among the civilian victims were 396 children and 541 women, highlighting this as evidence of a fragile security surroundings and an escalating threat to society’s most vulnerable groups.
The human rights body warned that accountability for this massacre remains absent. In some cases, perpetrators evade detection while facts are distorted. For instance, a fact-finding committee established to investigate massacres in Syria’s coastal regions failed to deliver findings aligned with reality-despite ongoing massacres in areas such as Sweida.
