Hezbollah Faction: Lebanese Government’s Action Undermines National Sovereignty
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Amin Sherri, a Hezbollah parliamentary bloc member, told Al jazeera: “We are responding step by step to what the government is doing.”
He added, ”We objected to the U.S. plan because it reflects Israel’s objectives.”
The Lebanese lawmaker described the government’s moves as hasty steps that neither protect sovereignty nor liberate territory.
He emphasized, “We demand serious discussions regarding defense strategy and arms usage.”
In today’s cabinet session, Lebanon agreed to U.S. envoy demands.
Lebanese Information Minister Paul Marwan announced that although cabinet members discussed the issue today, they did not delve into details or timelines.
Marwan noted that ministers from Amal Movement and Hezbollah affirmed their commitment to a cabinet statement emphasizing state monopoly over arms.
He said Lebanon agreed on maintaining exclusive control of weapons under government authority and deploying army forces in southern Lebanon. Marwan also claimed that during the meeting there was an emphasis on Israeli withdrawal from five locations in southern Lebanon.
The minister added that cabinet members consented to ending armed activities across Lebanon-including those conducted by Hezbollah.
this comes hours after Amal Movement and Hezbollah ministers Tamara Al-Zein, rakan Nasrddine, Muhammad Haidar Wafadi Maki exited the cabinet session prematurely.
