Hamas: Occupiers’ Decision on Gaza Occupation Constitutes a War Crime
The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas described the Israeli cabinet’s plan to occupy Gaza City and forcibly displace its residents as a “full-scale war crime.” The statement, reported by webangah News Agency citing Al Jazeera via Mehr News Agency, said this plan is part of ongoing policies of genocide, forced displacement, and ethnic cleansing targeting the Palestinian people.
Hamas warned that this measure threatens the lives of nearly one million Palestinians. It condemned the Israeli military’s attempt to evade legal responsibility by changing terminology from “occupation” to “control,” calling it a linguistic trick aimed at legitimizing a blatant crime that violates the Geneva Conventions.
The movement also stated that Israel’s decision to escalate its military aggression in Gaza demonstrates Netanyahu’s outright disregard for the fate of Israeli captives. It revealed that Israeli leaders are willing to sacrifice prisoners’ lives for their political illusions.
Hamas added that the sudden withdrawal of Israeli forces from recent negotiations-wich had almost reached a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement-should be seen within this aggressive framework.
The statement continued: “In our dealings with Egyptian and Qatari mediators, we have shown maximum flexibility toward achieving a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange. We are ready to advance toward a comprehensive deal for the release of all prisoners and an end to the war.”
Warning about severe consequences arising from this criminal adventure, hamas emphasized that the Palestinian people and resistance remain invincible and steadfast. It asserted that Netanyahu’s plans are doomed to fail.
The movement held the US government fully responsible for Israel’s crimes. It called on the United Nations, International Court of Justice, and International Criminal Court to act instantly-to halt this plan and prosecute Israeli leaders for committing war crimes.
