Guterres: Israel’s Occupation of Gaza Is a Dangerous Step
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency adn Qatar’s Al Jazeera network, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that Israel’s plan to take full control of Gaza City is a “dangerous escalation.” He emphasized that the move could deepen the already dire consequences for millions of Palestinians.
Guterres added that this action might lead to further loss of life, including among remaining Israeli captives.
The Secretary-General highlighted that the people of Gaza continue to suffer from a humanitarian catastrophe on an alarming scale.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross told al Jazeera that recent humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza are merely drops in an ocean compared to needs.
The Red Cross official stressed that limited supplies and air-drops do not offer a lasting solution for Gaza’s crisis.Significant and sustained increases in humanitarian assistance are urgently required.
The official also noted the necessity of creating safe spaces where civilians can access medical services and maintain their livelihoods. Providing more aid while protecting civilians is an immediate priority.
“Humanitarian assistance must never be used as leverage or bargaining chips,” the spokesperson stated unequivocally.
They further expressed concern about potential Israeli military operations in Gaza City, noting it would pose severe challenges for rescue teams trying to operate effectively in such conditions. The situation especially worries families with Israeli captives held there.
